McCreary is unique among Kentucky's counties, being the only county with no incorporated city. In other words, the McCreary County Fiscal Court is the governing body for the whole county.

The fiscal court consists of the county judge executive and one magistrate from each of four(4) districts. The court meets the second Tuesday of each month on an alternating schedule of 9:00am and 6:00pm meetings.
