Sandhill 4-H
Conservation Camp began as a 4-H camp in 1959
under the leadership of local Extension Agent
Elmer Boggs. After years of operating as a camp
that educated and shaped the lives of many local
youth, the US Forest Service turned the camp
over to McCreary County to be used as a
recreational facility. Today, the camp features
RV and primitive campsites, playground equipment
and basketball courts, a community building
including a kitchen, showers and laundry
facility, several shelters and a stage for
outdoor performances. Each year, the camp hosts
several major events including Blazin' Bluegrass
Festival, a Junior ROTC competition weekend, a
reunion of the Dixie Transport Drivers Club, and
many others. |
